EVER since she was just four-years-old Point Cook’s Eden Laurence has felt most at home on the dance floor.
A student at First Step and Stepping Out Performing Arts in Werribee, the confident 14-year-old said she wanted to become a dance teacher so she could share her joy of dancing with others.
“My favourites are hip hop and ballet. I like the style and fastness of hip hop and I like watching ballet,” Eden said.
“It looks easy but you have to work really hard to get where you want to be.”
She is already a student teacher and said she could be found almost every day practising her skills in a studio.
Eden’s teacher and the founder of First Steps, Liz Loft, said she could see her young prodigy following in her footsteps.
“I think she’ll be a really good teacher because she’s a hard worker,” Ms Loft said.
“To be a good teacher you’ve got to have more than just dancing skills.”
Ms Loft has been in the industry for more than 20 years after leaving school to become a professional dancer.
Her colourful career has seen her dance in commercials and work as a Carlton Bluebird.
“I left school in Year 11 to be a professional dancer and that’s exactly what I did,” she said.
“Later somebody asked me to teach for them and I obviously enjoyed it and had a knack for it and it just went from there.”
