Court closed for DVD viewing

THERE was a further hearing in the Children’s Court last week on the notorious Werribee DVD, which shows a 17-year-old girl being sexually assaulted at a park in Werribee.
Eight teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the incident, which occurred in June last year.
The judge granted an application for the court to be closed during the showing of the DVD at the hearing, saying it would cause undue distress and embarrassment to the victim.
The girl was not present at the hearing.
The DVD allegedly shows the girl’s hair being set alight and the perpetrators spitting on her.
Three other defendants have their matters listed for a contested hearing at a later date.
