Getting down to business

A PROPOSED $300 million industrial estate development near Caroline Springs looks to go ahead after negotiations between the developer and the State Government.
A Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) hearing held last Monday and Tuesday led to the matter adjourned for a future hearing in two months time after the developer, Leighton Property, agreed to make some changes to development layouts.
Leighton Property Victoria manager Bill Beck said the changes included adding another native vegetation reserve to the south of the site and relocation of a reserve in the north.
“We have an in principle agreement to provide a couple more reserves,” Mr Beck said.
“We are working out the exact details with DSE (Department of Sustainability and Environment).
“DSE suggested an alternative arrangement for the reserves. Originally we had two reserves set aside.”
He said VicRoads also had some minor issues that arose late.
Melton Shire Council’s planning and development general manager Luke Shannon the developer will discuss the new layout plans with council in order to ensure the layout also meets council’s satisfaction.
“It is likely the issue will be resolved through those negotiations, thus there will be no need for a further VCAT hearing,” he said.
