RUMOURS that Brimbank City Council’s CEO Marilyn Duncan is resigning have not been confirmed.
Despite a few anonymous comments posted on the Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association website, claiming Ms Duncan may have resigned, Brimbank mayor Natalie Suleyman says the rumour is “not true”.
On the other hand, Ms Duncan was on a “pre-arranged two weeks’ annual leave” until 20 November, Cr Suleyman said.
“I can definitely say that there is no resignation of the CEO, and that is it for this point of time,” Cr Suleyman said.
But in an email given to Star by a council source, Cr Suleyman wrote to her fellow councillors stating she was “extremely disappointed with reports from the local media of conversations in relation to the Chief Executive Officer’s matter being discussed”.
“May I remind you all of the confidential matters associated with this issue and its sensitivity. We are all dealing in good faith and it is a pity that someone has decided to totally disregard this,” Cr Suleyman had written.
A council source who did not wish to be identified told Star that councillors were told of the CEO’s planned resignation during a special meeting on 31 October.
“The mayor discussed it with the CEO prior to the meeting,” the council source told Star.
Councillor Sam David said “the resignation business” was news to him.
“Sometimes we get the news from you (the journalists) people,” he said.
“We haven’t had meetings about it but I heard that she (Ms Duncan) left me a message that she was going on annual leave,” he said.
