FITNESS fanatics have been urged to slip into something a little bit more comfortable for a 24-hour relay to raise money for the Cancer Council.
The Wyndham Relay For Life needs teams of 10 or more to register to run, walk or stroll relay-style around a track for 24-hours.
It costs just $15 each to enter and all money goes to supporting cancer research.
Event chairperson Betty Eddowes said about 290 Wyndham people are diagnosed with cancer each year. Bowel cancer is the most common type.
She said that in 2006, 434 Wyndham residents used the Cancer Council’s cancer information and support services, including the help line.
“Just about everyone in Wyndham knows someone who has experienced cancer,” Ms Eddowes said.
“Coming to a Relay For Life event is an opportunity to celebrate with people in the community who have beaten cancer, while at the same time honouring those who have been lost.”
She said the event would not be all huffing and puffing on the track.
“There is plenty of fun to be had with everyone camping out overnight in a festive atmosphere,” she said.
The Relay For Life will be held at the Victoria University and Wyndham Sports Complex in Hoppers Lane, Werribee from 11am on 31 March to 11am 1 April.
