Rams crash against leader

NEWPORT remains one of two sides yet to taste victory in Baseball Victoria’s Division One competition after a third round thrashing on Sunday.
The Rams copped a 23-1 hiding from ladder leader Essendon on the road, and suffered a 4-0 loss on Friday night at Melbourne Ball Park to make it four straight losses to start the 2006-07 season.
Newport shares bottom spot with Sandringham, but has a much lower percentage after scoring only six runs in four appearances.
And it doesn’t get any easier for the Rams, who are scheduled to meet Blackburn in a midweek match on Thursday to complete round three.
The seconds were also thrashed 21-0, but the thirds and fourths both scored narrow victories to give the club some cause for celebration.
In Division Three, Werribee suffered its first loss of the season – a narrow 5-4 defeat at the hands of Ormond Glenhuntly, which leads the competition after three rounds.

Williamstown also came back to earth in round three, losing 1-0 in a low-scoring affair against Springvale.
Footscray remains winless after three rounds following a 10-5 loss to Berwick.
