WRFL sets some ground rules

NORMALITY was restored in the Western Region Football League (WRFL) Division Two competition when Central Altona and Braybrook returned to the field of play at the weekend.
After having its round five clash cancelled, the Tigers travelled to Dempster Park to take on North Sunshine, while the Brookers hosted North Footscray.
After Braybrook’s forfeiture, there were fears other clubs might follow suit when they were due to face Central Altona, but the WRFL moved quickly to ensure the season continued without further interruptions.
After meetings with clubs in the early days of last week, the league released a statement outlining its plans to ensure the continuation of the division two competition.
“In light of recent events, the Central Altona Football Club has put in place a number of measures to ensure that their participation in the division two competition is conducted in a manner which is consistent with the rules and spirit of the game,” the statement said.
“The WRFL in recent years has led the way in providing safe and enjoyable playing environments, and will continue to do so with the support of all participants from the 36 WRFL clubs.”
Braybrook and Central Altona will continue 2006 season having played one game less than the rest of the competition after neither was awarded the points in round five.
