Wyndham scores well in solar stakes

MORE Wyndham residents are turning to the sun with the municipality ranking as one of the best Melbourne suburbs for solar panel installations.
While Victoria as a whole did not rank very highly on a national scale, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina were placed sixth in the state, with 11.6 per cent of houses having the renewable energy technology installed.
Wyndham Vale placed seventh on the list 11.3 per cent of houses with solar panels, according to figures released by Climate Spectator.
Director of the Western Region Environment Centre, Harry van Moorst, said it was important to encourage local businesses to also take up the environmental challenge.
“Wyndham has performed well in the development of renewable energy on our rooftops. Hoppers Crossing and Wyndham Vale, along with Caroline Springs, have the best record of all Melbourne suburbs, something of which we should be proud,” Mr Van Moorst said.
“The task now is to improve this record and involve local businesses to similarly use their rooftops as a money-saving and energy alternative to fossil fuels.”
