CONSTRUCTION of Wyndham’s newest and most highly anticipated housing estate has finally started with 30,000 tonnes of rock ready to be placed in the water.
The rocks will form the breakwater at Wyndham Harbour and developers have said that this is one of the most important steps for the development.
The building of the breakwater will be undertaken by BMD Constructions. Developers said last week that Wyndham Harbour’s vision is to create “Melbourne’s only premium master-planned marina community where you can step out from your waterfront home directly onto your boat and Port Phillip Bay”.
Architects, Fender Katsalidis Mirams envisioned the master plan for the estate with the sold-out Marina Quays Apartments overlooking the central Marina Square precinct.
Karl Fender and Rob Mirams, Founding Directors of Fender Katsalidis Mirams, worked with Tract Landscape Architects and Urban Planners to develop the retail and dining setting that will become the Marina Square, a thriving centre and activity hub of Wyndham Harbour.
“The design focuses on bringing residents and visitors together in a central space that capitalises on the unique views over the harbour,” Mr Fender said.
“By capturing the essence of the pristine surroundings and coastal lifestyle, Marina Square will be a vibrant village centre in the City of Wyndham.”
Work on the marina is expected to be completed by the end of 2013, and will provide up to 1000 berths and up to 390 dry boat storage in the only approved safe boat harbour between Williamstown and Geelong.
