A vision of future

DEVELOPERS of the proposed $1 billion Cedar Woods Estate have released an artist’s impression of how they expect the former RAAF airfield in Laverton to shape up over the next 15 years.
The 275-hectare residential and employment area will be located next to a new train station for Point Cook, recently announced as part of the State Government’s $10 billion transport masterplan.
Nathan Blackburne, Victorian manager for the Perth-based developer, said the announcement was a major boost for Cedar Woods.
“The new station is a priority station and transport modelling shows that it will have one of the highest patronages in the region,” Mr Blackburne said.
He said the company hoped to begin transforming the former airfield into a housing estate and employment area as early as December.
As part of the redevelopment, Cedar Woods will construct Palmers Rd to link with VicRoads’ new $22.6 million freeway interchange.
Palmers Rd is planned to stretch from Point Cook to the Calder Freeway and run through Cedar Woods’ proposed activity centre.
Cedar Woods will eventually house an estimated 6500 residents, and generate jobs for about 5000 people, he said.
Several Wyndham City councillors have recently expressed concerns over the company’s recent emphasis to develop the area as a housing estate with large retail operations.
That proposal contrasts with an original council plan for the area to be mainly an employment hub with offices and business parks.
