Australia Day welcomes all

THE City of Maribyrnong’s Australia Day festivities will welcome the newest arrivals to the municipality as well as recognise the achievements of those who have volunteered their time to the area.
On Friday 26 January, the day will start with 40 new citizens pledging their loyalty to their new home in a special Australia Day citizenship ceremony.
Maribyrnong City Council mayor Michael Clarke said the celebrations would also include a special lunch where the 2007 City of Maribyrnong Civic Awards would be presented.
“Australia Day is a time to acknowledge the voluntary work people carry out in our community in an effort to make it a better place,” Cr Clarke said.
“The civic awards acknowledge those in the community who have generously given up their time.”
Cr Clarke said this year there were more than 45 nominations for Citizen of the Year award and other categories.
Australia Day Celebrations will run from 10am to 3pm on 26 January.
