Charity begins here

THE Footscray Rotary Club invites community groups in the West to make funding submissions.
The club gave away $44,400 last year to charities and expects to give away a similar amount in 2006.
Darcy Brennan, public officer for the fund, said the money came from an annual income made in the club’s equities investments.
“The annual income, because of the structure of the fund must be distributed,” Mr Brennan said.
“And the trustee states that 25 per cent of it has to go to the aged care area. It is up to the trust distribution committee to give away the balance.”
He said the club liked to support small community service organisations that were incorporated, but had also given money to larger organisations like the Western Hospital.
He said those who submitted applications for funds could get more or less than what was asked.
“We respond according to the funds we have available, and the project that is wishing to be advanced, in addition to how it fits in with the local community.”
Mr Brennan explained that the funds would be distributed at the Rotary Awards night, in December.
He said that applications must be sent by 20 November to the Distribution Committee Community, Rotary Club of Footscray, PO Box 469 Ascot Vale 3032.
