Draw gives Keilor Park confidence for finals

KEILOR Park held Ashburton to an entertaining 3-3 draw to enter the 2006 Victorian Women’s Premier League finals brimming with confidence.
Both teams were assured of their positions inside the top five before the final round began, but Keilor Park was keen to reverse the 6-4 defeat it suffered to Ashburton in round 11.
Keilor Park got off to a flying start in the first half to lead 3-1 at the break, but Ashburton finished strongly to claim a second half equaliser.
Melanie Camilleri again found the scoresheet, firing two goals past the visitors’ defence to finish as clearly the most productive scorer in the league this season with 30 goals.
Lauren Farrugia also found the back of the net in the first half for Keilor, while Seyma Erenli kicked two goals for Ashburton.
Keilor Park finished the regular season in fifth spot with 12 wins and eight losses.
The finals draw sees the club pitted against fourth-placed Cranbourne in a winner-takes-all elimination final on Sunday.
Keilor Park defeated the Comets 4-3 in round five, but lost its most recent battle 4-0 in a mid-week catch-up round before last weekend’s final round.
Brimbank’s demotion to the state leagues was made official when it lost 10-1 to Preston on the road.
It ended a fruitless second season in the top division for Brimbank with no wins, only two draws and 20 losses.
