Even pressure gives Jets strong win

By Mark Murray
THE Western Jets continued their barnstorming TAC Cup form with a crushing 122-point win over the Sandringham Dragons on Saturday.
The Jets used the footy brilliantly at Williamstown’s Burbank Oval and sit on a 3-1 win-loss ratio after four rounds.
They led from start to finish, dominating across every line with best players hard to pick.
Jets coach Mark Neeld said he was delighted with his side’s position heading into another home clash next week against the Murray Bushrangers.
“We’ve started really well and I guess no-one can fault anything at this stage,” he said.
“The guys are really working for each other and playing with a fair amount of self-belief.
“It’s been an impressive start to the season and Saturday was probably the best we’ve played.
“We can only hope we can continue it for the next four weeks now, then we’ll know exactly where we stand.”
The Jets were consistent in every quarter with the backline providing plenty of drive and the midfield clearly on top.
They gave their forwards an abundance of opportunities with Steve Morris booting six goals as an on-baller resting forward.
Daniel Mckerracher also benefitted from quick ball movement with five majors.
Other stand-outs were Callam Ward, who had 10 marks and a mountain of the footy across half back, while Rhys Prismal and Nathan Black did their state selection chances no harm with eye-catching games.
“We just kept at it in every quarter and got the results for it,” Neeld said.
“We kicked 12 goals in the first half and another 12 in the second, so we kept the pressure on all day.
“We only conceded five goals as well, so our defence is holding up okay.”
Neeld said his side was exuding confidence heading into this weekend’s match against the Bushrangers.
“We couldn’t have hoped for a better start and its definitely better to be 3-1 than 1-3,” he said.
“It will be an even competition this year so early wins are massive and will be important.
“Everyone is playing a role and we need to make sure we keep doing that.
“We don’t know much about Murray, but we’ll have a look at their match report and see what we’re going to come up against.
“They’ve had a couple of good wins this year.”
