Kids on track to good road sense

YOUNGSTERS who spend time at a Spotswood kindergarten are sure to be the envy of their peers.
The Emma McLean Kindergarten and Daycare centre has installed a rubber bike track on its grounds at a cost of more than $10,000.
While Hobsons Bay City Council kicked in for the main costs, parents of the 76 children raised $1400 to make sure there were bikes to ride.
Now the kids can choose to take a tandem or solo ride, wearing helmets and fluorescent gear that put the finishing touches to the short course.
“The bike track is a fun activity, but also a tool upon which we will start riding education the children will hopefully take with them throughout life,” said committee member Therese O’Donoghue.
She said the project to build an exciting bike track for the three and four-year-olds was the vision of committees and parents.
Melinda Jacobson, head of the Amy Gillett Foundation helped open the track last Tuesday and said she thought it was a wonderful idea to teach young kids road rule etiquette.
