Marionette exhibition drawn from memories

MARIONETTES come to life in a series of striking paintings by Carmen Novoa currently being exhibited at Brimbank City Council’s Hunt Club Community Arts Centre until 25 January.
The Marionettes is an exciting exploration of the various puppets that are popular symbols around the world.
From the raucous slapstick Punch and Judy to the sophistication of modern puppetry, puppets have universal appeal for all ages and cultures.
Ms Novoa says she chose marionettes as a theme for her paintings to honour the memories of her childhood in Uruguay, as that was a time when puppet shows were a popular spectacle that brought the family together in shared enjoyment.
The Marionettes can be viewed at the Foyer Gallery of the Hunt Club Community Arts Centre at 775 Ballarat Rd, Deer Park, until 25 January, Monday to Thursday from 9am-6pm during school holidays, Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 9am-1pm.
