Constructed by developer Lawport, the one-kilometre-long road will link Calder Park Dr and the west of Overton Lea Blvd.
Sugargum Ward councillor Justin Mammarella told Star the news had been long awaited by the community.
He commended the developers, saying they had listened to residents’ needs.
“The road will make things a lot easier, and I am sure it will be a boon to Watergardens Shopping Centre by providing better access from across the state,” Cr Mammarella said.
Lawport property development and project manager Anthony Porto said the work was brought forward two years.
“We actually brought this forward on its own in isolation, purely for the benefit of the people who are living on the project land.
“We saw that the time was right to do it now,” Mr Porto said.
The $1 million project is expected to benefit the 2500 residents of Taylors Hill.
The construction is part of the developer’s master plan of residential development at the western end of Hume and Calder Park drives.
Mr Porto said future Lawport developments of Calder Park Dr would link residents to Caroline Springs.
Construction of a commercial precinct at the corner of Hume Dr and Gourlay Rd is in the planning stages.
“We are currently going through the planning issues but we haven’t set a date yet,” Mr Porto said.
