YOUNG mums are being invited to join a new mothers group especially for them in Wyndham.
Bump, Baby and Beyond is a Wyndham City Youth Services program for mums and mums-to-be who are under the age of 25.
The program is ideal for young mums to meet and befriend other mothers and children in the same age group.
Point Cook mother Cassandra Hron, 20, said she had previously been in a mother’s group with older mothers but did not feel she connected.
“I am a new mum, I had no idea what I was doing and the mother’s groups that I was in didn’t seem suited to me,” Ms Hron said.
Since starting this group with her 11-month-old daughter Haeyley in January ,Ms Hron said she has made amazing friendships.
“I like having the company and knowing there’s someone who is 20 who lives around the corner and I can call them and say ‘hey lets hang out’,” she said.
Wyndham Deputy Mayor Marie Brittan said the program was a perfect way for pregnant women and young mothers to connect with one another in a friendly and supportive environment.
“As a mother, I know how important it is to stay connected to the community, especially when you have small children,” Cr Brittan said.
Mothers can enjoy a range of activities like cooking lessons and family days out as well as access to important information about services and issues for parents.
They can also speak with the program’s maternal and child health nurse.
“With 3933 babies born in Wyndham during 2012-13, the equivalent of almost 11 a day, Wyndham City is committed to supporting our young families,” Cr Brittan said.
The program is held every Wednesday from 24 July at the Wyndham Youth Resource Centre.
