WILLIAMSTOWN coach Peter German has no doubts about his ability to coach at the highest level, but will wait and see if the Western Bulldogs hierarchy considers him a worthy candidate for the recently vacated head coach role.
German, who is a development coach at the Bulldogs, certainly has the runs of the boards, having been an assistant coach at Hawthorn, West Coast and Fremantle, and leading Subiaco to two WAFL premierships.
German was appointed coach of VFL side Casey in 2009, taking the Scorpions to sixth and being named VFL coach of the year. He has since held the reins at Williamstown, which was knocked out in the preliminary final last season and is sitting second this year.
“I’m sure at some stage I’ll speak to someone at the club and I’ll find out pretty clearly whether the Western Bulldogs are interested in me or not,” the former North Melbourne footballer said.
“I think the days are gone where you put your hand up and spruik as much as you want in the media or say that you’re ready. I’ve been around footy long enough to know I think clubs know exactly what they want and what type of coach and they go and source it, so to me that’s how it will work.”
German said he had the experience to be a senior coach at an AFL side.
