SPORTWEST students handed out nearly 300 Western Bulldogs scarves to the disadvantaged as part of a Winter Scarf Appeal they devised as part of their VCAL program.
The students, who collaborated with community worker Les Twentyman and the Bulldogs on the project, distributed the scarves at the 20th Man Foundation soup kitchen last Monday.
Last month the Western Bulldogs dedicated a game to the students’ Winter Scarf Appeal, which attracted donations of 560 scarves from the public. The Bulldogs added a further 440 of their own scarves to the appeal, to bring the total distributed so far to 1000.
SportWest VCAL is an alternative completion program for secondary school students who are interested in a career in sport, recreation or fitness.
The program showcases the partnership between Victoria University and the Western Bulldogs and their shared commitment to improving the educational outcomes of young people in Melbourne’s West.
