ONE of Wyndham’s hardest working volunteer groups is celebrating after announcing that it has injected more than $1 million into the community.
The Rotary Club of Werribee, which was formed in 1968, has raised around $1.1 million through fundraising initiatives throughout its long history.
President of the club, Graham Roper, said he was honoured to be part of such a worthwhile group.
“It’s a really warm feeling to know that we’ve been able to support the community in so many ways,” Mr Roper said.
“There is no doubt our city of Werribee is a better community through the involvement of our Rotary Club, and we can look back with pride at the early service achievements”.
Some of the projects the club has been involved in over their 43-year history are the establishment of Manor Court Aged Care and Accommodation, the formation of Little Athletics in Werribee and the beautification of Kelly Park, just to mention a few.
And Mr Roper, whose wife Wendy is also a former president of the Rotary Club of Werribee, said he intended to take the group from strength to strength.
“We just want to get our name back out into the community and be even more active,” he said.
“We’d like to be able to help elderly people in the community with their gardening. We have a lot of plans to be able to continue helping the community.”
