STUDENTS from St Albans Secondary College are set to wow crowds at the 2011 Fashion Awards Australia, when their creative designs are displayed on the catwalk.
The event’s regional finals will be held at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre on Wednesday, showcasing the work of the area’s top young fashionistas.
Budding fashion designer and Year 12 student Rolland Andreica, from St Albans Secondary College, won ‘Best New Talent’ at last year’s awards.
He will be defending his title at the Wednesday evening event, in the street wear, day wear and casual wear categories.
The school is a hotbed of young talent, boasting students who hold the title of Best Designer, Calico, Street, Evening, Race Wear and Casual (Funk) Wear from last year’s fashion event.
After receiving his award in 2010, Rolland said he never imagined he would win the prize.
A former St Albans Secondary College student, Jai Nguyen, also took out the ‘Best New Talent’ award at the 2009 fashion finals.
Jai is now studying fashion and will enter the TAFE section of the Fashion Awards Australia.
“I still can’t believe that the best new talent awards 2009 and 2010 went to a couple of boys from the western suburbs,”
he said.
“The award really helped me to get into the Diploma course at the Centre for Fashion in Richmond.”
“The staff from Kangan Batman TAFE were on the judging panel and in the audience at the schools award.
“They recognised my gowns and knew that I had won the young achiever award.”
A gala presentation of the awards finalists will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne 10 September.
