Speed change

By VANESSA VALENZUELA
SPEED limit changes will be implemented on the Princes Hwy in Werribee following an overhaul of all speed limits in Victoria.
The 60km/h speed limit along the Princes Hwy will be extended between Queens Court and Harriet St to improve safety in the area.
Dozens of roads across Melbourne with multiple speed zones will be simplified under changes made to Victoria’s speed limit system.
The speed limit reforms were announced last week following a VicRoads review in 2011.
VicRoads visited all locations identified in submissions and consulted with a wide range of stakeholders including local councils and Victoria Police.
The reforms also include phasing out 90km/h and 70km/h zones so drivers will be confronted with fewer changes.
Wyndham Transport Advisory Committee chairman Jim Giddings said the group had been lobbying to have the speed limit reduced along the road.
“The reason we wanted a change is because the intersection between Sneydes Rd and the Princes Highway is a busy intersection and the general traffic conditions warrant a reduction in the area,” Mr Giddings said.
“We certainly endorse the speed change on the road.”
Minister for Roads Terry Mulder said he was pleased to present the actions resulting from the
Review.
“I called for the review to fix the issues of too many speed limit changes
within short distances and too many signs which can confuse drivers,” Mr
Mulder said.
“The 2011/12 Victorian Speed Limit Review attracted more than 600
submissions from the community and identified numerous locations across
Victoria where drivers were confused about the speed limit.”
