THE last school bell rang for year 12 students across Victoria last week but the coming months will put their entire school education to the test.
More than 82,000 Victorian students will hit the exam halls for their final assessments of VCE.
For many it’s arguably the most important time in their school life but through the stress of study Year 12 students Holly and Steven from Thomas Carr College try to keep things in perspective.
School vice-captain Holly Briffa said she’s ready to take on the exams and looks forward to life after high school.
“I am a bit nervous and a bit reluctant to leave this place but I’m also looking forward to close this chapter and start the next one,” Holly said.
Student Representative Council executive Steven Razlog admits he’s nervous about the exams but like Holly will go in knowing he did his best to prepare.
“If I go in there and do as well as I can and I walk out and get my results back and they’re not what I wanted at the end of the day I’ve done the best I can and it’s not going to be the end of the world,” Mr Razlog said.
School councillor and director of student services Geralyn McCarthy said this year more students have expressed anxiety about the forthcoming exams.
Mrs McCarthy said it was important for students to balance study with a healthy lifestyle.
“Eating well sleeping well and developing all around healthy habits, I think some of those young people that haven’t been able to master that sometimes it results in anxiety later.”
