ROADWORKS in Werribee have been delayed by almost five months due to the relocation of a major electricity line.
Works being done to Leakes Rd, between Derrimut and Tarneit roads, were originally due to be completed in August this year, but are now expected to be finished in December.
Wyndham Council CEO, Kerry Thompson, said the project had to be drawn out in order to avoid Werribee losing an electricity source.
“The Leakes Rd project has had an extended construction period as it required the relocation of a major electricity line which had limited shutdown opportunities (to avoid cutting off electricity to Werribee),” Ms Thompson said.
“Also, a major telecommunication cable, water main and gas main had to be relocated before works could commence.”
The project, which was started to install traffic signals, has now incorporated other complex jobs. “Also included is additional works such as subgrade improvements and tie-in’s into adjoining subdivisions which were not part of the original scope of works,” Ms Thompson said.
