By voting for me you would make this area a marginal seat. I would commit to getting trucks off our residential streets, and I won’t allow any more planning decisions behind closed doors – there needs to be community consultation. Community assets need to remain in community hands, that’s obviously a big issue in Sunshine where (the former) Sunvale Primary School is. I would achieve this by negotiating with the major parties.
Footscray is a safe Labor seat – why should voters deviate from the norm?
If we make this seat marginal, then everyone benefits. If the Footscray seat was marginal, then the Liberal and Labor parties would be fighting over it and could you imagine a hung Parliament and an independent in Footscray holding the balance of power? It would be all our Christmases at once.
What would you have done differently if you served Marsha Thomson’s last term?
I would have banned trucks coming through Footscray. Two, I would have consulted the community about major infrastructure projects and funded new community facilities in the area, such as kindergartens, the YMCA, elderly facilities. I would not have sold off the Sunvale Primary School.
