MENTAL Health has been made an election issue with Tim Pallas promising $4 million to deliver a new Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC) service in Werribee for adults in need of mental health treatment.
Minister for Roads and Ports and Member for Tarneit, Tim Pallas, said PARC services help people recover from mental illness buy offering support to those who may not need to be in hospital but are too unwell to live at home.
“We know PARC services reduce the need for hospital admission and help people leave sooner and get on with their lives, so we want to ensure these services are available in more places across Victoria so more people can get the help they need regardless of where they live,” Mr Pallas said.
Mr Pallas said that one in five people in Wyndham will suffer from a mental illness in their lifetime and he was committed to provide funding and services for his electorate.
“Labor understands young people have different needs to those of older members of the community, so it’s vital that treatment and care is delivered in the right environment for them,” he said.
“That’s why a future Labor Government will develop separate PARC services specifically for young people aged between 16 and 25, and others specifically for adults.”
