WYNDHAM’S top cop will be moving to Geelong after almost four years as Inspector.
Bill Weatherly was officially announced as police Inspector for Wyndham in May 2008 after 15 months as acting Inspector.
In that time the population of Wyndham has boomed by more than 50,000 people, representing many challenges for Insp Weatherly and his officers.
Under Insp Weatherly’s watch a new police station was built in Tarneit, a family violence unit and a burglary unit was established and dangerous young drivers were targeted.
The burglary unit is considered a huge success, managing to curb the trend of thefts and vandalism on houses under construction – something Insp Weatherly has described as a growing problem in Wyndham.
One of Insp Weatherly’s biggest campaigns was his focus on road trauma. Last year 11 people died in road accidents, most of them young drivers.
Insp Weatherly called an emotionally charged community forum to try and tackle the issue.
“I was sick and tired of seeing young kids lying dead on the road because of pure stupidity,” Insp Weatherly said recently.
It is understood that Inspector Weatherly is currently on leave. Star attempted to contact him for comment.
Star also attempted to contact Acting Superintendent Ian Geddes for comment but he did not respond by deadline.
