Knights drop their guard

MELBOURNE Knights ledger is squared after its second loss of the Victorian Premier League season against South Melbourne on Sunday.
The round four results show the Knights on two wins and two losses this season, which sits them in sixth place on six points.
The Sunday afternoon clash against South at Bob Jane Stadium saw the Knights concede two quick second half goals after a competitive opening half, eventually going down 2-1.
“It was disappointing,” Knights coach Chris Taylor said.
“We thought we lacked a bit of concentration for that 15-minute patch in the second half when they scored their two goals.
“When we got the goal back we always felt we were a chance to equalize.”
It was 10 minutes after the break the South capitalized twice in the space of five minutes against an undermanned Knights outfit – missing Cameron Watson (injury) and Frankie Lagana (suspension).
Taylor was not making any excuses for the loss but was not defeatist about the result.
“To be honest we know we have got a young side we had both our central midfielders out on the weekend so it was always going to make things difficult and we haven’t played a home game yet.”
Taylor was pleased with the opening half which saw both teams on even pegging, but noted the South game play hindered his team’s effectiveness.
“The first half was very competitive, there were quite a few fouls in the game as well which I thought they were able to put us off with because it was quite stop start.”
The Knights head straight into another big match this week against Green Gully.
“It is going to be very difficult,” Taylor said. “They are unbeaten so far this season.”
Gully is also yet to concede a goal in 2009, giving the Knights incentive heading into the clash.
