Residents want action on rubbish

MORE Caroline Springs residents are calling for action to reduce the amount of rubbish dumped in the area.
Star received several phone calls in response to a story published earlier this month on rubbish dumping in the estate.
Concerned resident Nathan Miles highlighted issues with rubbish dumping in an article published in Star on 1 March.
The article has prompted residents to raise other concerns in Caroline Springs.
One resident called and said she was sick of being neglected.
“I completely agree with what Nathan has said.
“The quality of lifestyle here has really decreased.
“It has become a dump,” the woman said.
Traffic was also a problem in the estate due to an unfinished bridge, the resident said.
“The bridge on Caroline Springs Boulevard is a problem.
“It was supposed to be finished in late February, but it’s still not,” she said.
“When you go to drop the kids at school in the morning, traffic is bumper to bumper.
“We don’t know how to ask and what to do to fix all of these problems.”
Melton Shire councillor Kathy Majdlik would not admit to a rubbish problem in Caroline Springs, but said council did not take rubbish dumping lightly.
“Council strongly supports the Reduce, Recycle, Reuse philosophy and is firmly against any individual acts of rubbish dumping within the municipality,” Cr Majdlik said.
“The issue of illegal rubbish dumping or littering does and can occur in many council areas and is not limited to Melton Shire Council.”
“We have a full-time truck and bobcat unit that patrols rural roads on a weekly or fortnightly basis (depending on location).
“We also have a full time RTV unit that patrols township litter control areas on a weekly basis.”
Cr Majdlik said the council was preparing a report on the issues raised, and the report was due to be released soon.
