ALTONA jumped two places to finish second on the ladder and claim the double chance in the Vodafone Cup with a 2-0 win over Heidelberg United on Sunday.
The Magic leapfrogged United and previously second-placed South Melbourne, which was defeated 2-0 on the road by Green Gully.
Altona has set up a qualifying final clash with runaway minor premier Oakleigh, which finished 12 points clear on top of the table.
Should it fail to upset the Cannons, the Magic will play the winner of the elimination final between South Melbourne and Green Gully.
Altona was on the road in the crucial final round fixture and had to wait until the final 20 minutes of the game to secure victory.
After a 70-minute stalemate, league leading goalscorer Saso Becvinovski came to the rescue by finding the back of the net before Alfonso Opazo made the win official with a goal on the stroke of full-time.
