On your bikes,

By Michael Newhouse
STUDENTS from Caroline Springs College and surrounding schools were told to get on their bikes last week, as hundreds of students put the pedal to the metal for the inaugural Ride 2 School day.
Last Wednesday, more than 400 students from the Caroline Springs area ditched the luxury of the car and made the journey into school on two wheels instead of four, as the students became some of the first in Victoria to try out the new program.
Police officers blocked traffic and rode with the students between 8am and 9am to help provide them with a safe path to school, alerting motorists to the children and encouraging drivers to look out for cyclists.
Excited by the success of its Ride to Work day, Bicycle Victoria is rolling out the program for school children across the state, trying to get them out and get them riding and walking to school as often as possible.
Bicycle Victoria has set aside $4 million for the program, which will be rolled out across the rest of the Victoria over the next four years.
