WYNDHAMVALE’S A Turf side has defied the heat from both the sun and Williamstown Colts with a breakthrough victory on Saturday.
In searing 37-degree heat Wyndhamvale batted superbly to score 9/222 declared from 67 overs, passing Williamstown’s first innings score with relative ease early on the second day.
The hero of the innings for Wyndhamvale was Ryan Radford, who scored a magnificent 95 before he was frustratingly bowled before reaching his century.
He was part of an 83-run partnership with Peter Kivimets, who scored 31 before being caught.
The other score of note was A Turf debutant Trent Lawford with a solid knock of 32 before he was also caught.
The score gave Wyndhamvale first innings points, and on a blistering day with the little time left, it meant Williamstown was unable to score any more points.
In their second innings the Colts fared better with 4/179, Trent Lawford taking 3/24 off nine overs and Lee Veal 1/45 off 11 overs, but at the end of the day the Vales walked off happy winners.
It wasn’t to be in the B Turf however, with Wyndhamvale losing first innings points against Williamstown Colts.
After batting first and scoring 164, the Vales had the Colts at 6/64 before Williamstown went on to score 222 from 52.4 overs, Stuart Crowe battling bravely for 5/63 from 14 overs.
Simon May, playing his second B Turf game, took 2/13 off 3.4 overs and club president Ross Stringer snared 2/48 from 12 overs.
