WYNDHAM Police have released a photo of an assault victim’s wounds and urged anyone with any information to come forward.
The 18-year-old man was walking with another young man and two female companions along Heaths Rd, between Derrimut and Morris roads, Hoppers Crossing, on Saturday, May 19.
As they were nearing the skate park, they felt they were being followed by a group of four people.
The victim and his friends then stepped into the front yard of a house and waited for the group to pass them by.
After about five minutes, they left the yard and crossed over to the south side of Heaths Rd.
While walking opposite the skate park, the victim saw two males running across the road towards him.
The victim’s friends were able to flee, but he was unable to.
The two males then attacked the victim and he was stabbed in the hand, with what is believed to have been a broken glass bottle, while trying to protect himself.
The victim ran away and was chased for a short distance before his pursuers gave up.
Both males were described as being Maori in appearance and aged in their late teens or early 20s.
One of the assailants was wearing a white hooded top and the other a black T-shirt.
Police said the males were not known to the victim and the attack was unprovoked.
The victim required plastic surgery on his hand.
Any person who may have witnessed, or has knowledge of the incident, is urged to contact Detective Senior Constable Mark Woodhead at the Werribee CIU on 9742 9452 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
