IF Kerrie Gebert has her way, every dog will indeed have its day.
Months ago, the Hoppers Crossing resident established Puppy Tales Rescue, which takes in canines who are unwanted and need re-homing.
Ms Gebert, her teenage daughter Kayla and friend Felicity Susteren are known as the “Puppy Tales Rescue Team”.
Wagging tails and happy woofs welcome visitors to their house, which has temporarily become Puppy HQ thanks to an adorable group of young pooches who all need new homes.
Ms Gebert said Puppy Tales Rescue presently has around 10 foster carers looking after more than 20 canines of all breeds and sizes.
Ms Gebert said she was inspired to run Puppy Tales due to the amount of dogs who are abandoned and put down by pounds and shelters every week.
“When people can’t look after their dogs any more, they are charged a fee when they surrender them to the RSPCA or Lost Dogs Home,” she said.
“People need somewhere to take dogs where they will be looked after and kept safe until they are re-homed, which is what we do.
“The phone normally rings flat out.”
Ms Gebert said when Puppy Tales first began, her husband worked 12 hour shifts six days a week so they could pay for all the animals veterinary needs.
Before dogs are re-homed, they are microchipped, desexed, dewormed and vaccinated at Direct Vet Services in Point Cook.
Puppy Tales charges an adoption fee to cover costs and are also looking for more foster carers and donations.
On 27 July from 11am-3pm Puppy Tales will hold a fundraising barbecue at the Best Friends Pets SuperCentre in Point Cook.
