WERRIBEE’S State League women’s hockey team was defeated 3-0 by Casey on the weekend.
At halftime Casey led 2-0, as the Werribee girls showed signs of a long season and generally didn’t play the style of hockey they had displayed in other games.
The girls remained solid at times and despite Rebecca Shultz being in form and adapting to multiple position changes the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net.
Coach Ryan Tout said the team as a whole had an off day but overall he was happy with the consistent progress it had made throughout the season. Next week is the final round of the year.
The women’s metro 2 team secured their place in the finals series with a 1-1 draw against Sunshine on Sunday.
Co-coach Mel Stewart was confident the team will lift for next week’s game and have a solid win before the finals. Best on ground were Lizzie Tout, Jo Pernice and Lorretta Coverdale.
The Men’s State League team lost to second-placed Southern United. Luke Simpson scored the only goal for the Tigers. With one round of the season left the boys are looking to put in for their final game of the season.
