A BRAVE Hoppers Crossing mother who survived bowel cancer to fight another day will be using her story to inspire others and hopefully help to find a cure.
Julie Toner was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year at the age of 40 and had her entire colon removed as a result.
In June this year she found out that she was in remission and had beaten the cancer.
Now a blog that she had written during the experience has been turned into a book, with the proceeds of its sale going to Bowel Cancer Australia.
The front cover was illustrated by Wyndham’s Michelle Ripari.
Ms Toner said her battle with cancer had made her a stronger person.
“When I was diagnosed it was already at stage three and it was well on its way to being really aggressive,” Ms Toner said.
“I did have my doubts that I would make it in the beginning but I just had to think about my beautiful kids that I’ve got to live for.
“The one thing I said through this whole journey was that the power of positive thinking will get you through.
“It’s changed me completely though. I’m so much stronger and powerful now and I don’t take crap from anyone.”
Julie’s story, Just a Little Unwell, will be launched on Friday 4 October at 7pm at the Tarneit community Learning Centre.
