MARIBYRNONG City Council will transform the Footscray railway station this Friday as hip hop crew Urban Voices join forces with White Ribbon Day participants to support the elimination of violence against women.
Participants and performers will catch trains into the city from 1.15pm to join the 2.30pm Not1More Walk Against Family Violence Event, which marches from Melbourne Town Hall to Federation Square.
Free Metcards will be available for participants.
The council has a range of projects underway to support the elimination of violence against women, including a recently endorsed statement supporting gender equity and prevention of violence against women.
The council has also begun a joint three-year project with Brimbank and Wyndham City councils to develop a whole of community model to prevent violence against women and build more equitable local governments and communities in the West.
The council will work closely with schools, sports clubs, women’s and community health and other key partners to prevent violence together.
White Ribbon Day is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women held on 25 November each year.
