THE fastest growing municipality in Australia will now also have one of the loudest voices with the announcement that Wyndham Council will introduce a new Director of Advocacy.
Former Chief Executive of Nillumbik Shire, Bill Forest, will take on the completely new position at the council and will officially start work on 31 January.
Wyndham CEO Kerry Thompson told Star the objective of the Director of Advocacy would be to push Wyndham’s case to higher levels of government to bring a slice of the budget and infrastructure cake to our area.
“What this will be is absolutely to take a leadership role in government relations and advocacy to both federal and state government and businesses,” Ms Thompson said.
“So it will help drive the Council’s agenda around trying to get jobs, better transport, and all the issues we talk about all the time.”
Ms Thompson said the position was even more important with the changeover of the State Government in recent months.
“Because it’s a new government we’ve got to redevelop relationships and because they will be reviewing everything, we’ve got to go and say ‘ok well here’s the evidence, this is what you need to know about Wyndham, this is what we need,”’ she said.
