EIGHT fire fighting units from across Melbourne were called to control a blaze at a Yarraville clothing factory early on Saturday.
The blaze was estimated to have caused $800,000 of damage.
Alex Conway of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade’s fire investigation unit said the fire was deliberately lit outside the warehouse.
“Timber storage boxes were set alight outside the roller door of the factory,” Mr Conway said.
“Most of the contents of the warehouse, including sewing mach-ines and fabric, were destroyed by fire, heat or smoke.”
Walter Runciman, a Newport station officer, said the factory, Kymlee Fashions in Hall St, Yarraville, was difficult to access.
“Officers spent several minutes cutting through the metal door,” he said.
He said it was a serious fire that could have spread to other adjoining factories.
