THEY huffed and they puffed, but in the end all 11 Rescue Brimbank Together (RBT) candidates fell at the last hurdle, including former councillors Lisa North and Sam Tabban.
RBT pushed the theme of “it’s time” and attacked sitting councillors for being what they insisted was “out of touch with residents”.
RBT’s William Jacomb and Robert Mammarella blamed the party’s lack of success on rival candidates being supported by the “ALP machine”.
Unsuccessful candidate Sam Tabban declined to speculate on whether he suffered a backlash because of the adverse publicity surrounding police charges of alleged bribery.
Ms North said she thought she had a chance at being re-elected but admitted simply “it wasn’t to be”.
Returning councillor Natalie Suleyman, who said RBT singled her out for attack, told Star voters recognised the party “stood for nothing”.
“What the people of Brimbank said was that they needed no rescuing, and that was evident by the polls on Saturday,” Cr Suleyman said.
She promised continued “strong leadership” and warned that residents would see through any future attempts to target her or her family.
She said she would leave it to the people of Brimbank to see them for what there are.
