A RED-HOT Truganina fire brigade hosed down competition at last month’s Region 14 Rural Fire Championships to walk away with 18 trophies.
Two junior teams and a team of senior firefighters from the Truganina Country Fire Authority scooped eight place trophies, eight perpetual trophies and two aggregate cups in the competition.
Competition team co-ordinator Glenn Goodfellow said this was despite the summer fire season slashing training time by more than half.
“The junior teams only had four weeks to train this year when we usually start them in October,” he said.
“The senior team only had two weeks to train after they got together three weeks after watching the juniors and thought they would give it a go.”
The regional championships are based around firefighting activities such as using the hose and ladder and tanker tasks.
Mr Goodfellow said participation was good for team building, confidence and practice.
“Especially for the young ones it is good for hand and eye co-ordination and improving skill levels,” he said.
The brigade did not manage to continue on to the state championships in Learmonth last weekend.
