Cricket conversion reserved for now

PLANS to convert a soccer field at Mossfiel Reserve in Hoppers Crossing into a cricket oval have been delayed because of a budget blow-out.
Some $93,000 was allocated to the project as part of the last Wyndham City Council budget.
Early investigations show the project will actually require about $180,000 because of unexpected irrigation, drainage and fencing works.
The council voted to carry forward the $93,000 and refer the shortfall of $87,000 to the coming budget.
The Heaths Rd oval has been home to the Hoppers Crossing Club Cricket Club for more than a decade.
But until the Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club relocated to the Grange Reserve last year, the cricket club could only train there. It could not play matches at the reserve.
The cricket club will share the reserve with the Wyndham City Rhinos Rugby Union Club off-season.
