THE State Government has promised to build five new schools in Melbourne’s West, including a new prep to year eight school in Caroline Springs North and a new primary school in Derrimut, if it is re-elected at this Saturday’s election.
The new schools form part of the Bracks Government’s Growing the Western Suburbs policy, launched last week, which aims to boost Labor’s education and infrastructure credentials in the West in the lead-up to the 25 November poll.
A site for the new Derrimut primary school has been set aside near Balmoral Park, while the new school in Caroline Springs is earmarked for Gourlay Rd, near Hume Drive.
Of the 20 new schools Labor has promised it will build if re-elected for a third term, Caroline Springs is, according to its education policy, one of the top “priorities”.
Labor said both schools would be completed in the next four year, although no costings have been released yet.
