A NEW community liaison committee will be formed to handle complaints about the Sunshine quarry and disseminate information after a community information session is held.
For more than 10 years Kealba residents have complained to Brimbank City Council and the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) about noise and dust from the site owned by Mountain View Pty Ltd and Barro Group Pty Ltd.
A community liaison committee – with members from the council, the EPA and residents – was established in 1997 to deal with complaints about the operation of the quarry, with meetings held on a quarterly basis until 2000.
Investigations conducted by the committee did not determined whether dust was coming from the quarry or the North Sunshine Industrial Estate across the Western Ring Road.
Councillor Kathryn Eriksson told Tuesday night’s council meeting some disturbing developments had come out of the report prepared by council officers and tabled at the council meeting.
She said the first concern was the planning permit issued in 1999 which has no expiry date, a requirement of a State Government act.
Cr Eriksson said the second concern was the number of letters written to Barro Group by the council that received no response.
No date has been set for the community information session.
