North plays south for cup honours

FAWKNER/Whittlesea will take on South Melbourne in the final of soccer’s preseason summer cup tonight (Tuesday) after both scored thrilling victories in the semi-finals last week.
The Blues won through courtesy of an own goal in the dying stages of its match against Melbourne Knights on Thursday, while South Melbourne scored a 2-1 victory against 2006 Victorian Premier League debutant Kingston City.
South Melbourne recruit Kevin Nelson continued his dream preseason with a first half strike, but it was a second half winner from Fernando De Moraes that put the side through.
The final will be played tonight at Knights Stadium, ahead of the Premier League kick-off on Friday.
Semi-final results: Fawkner/Whittlesea (own goal) d Melbourne Knights 1-0.
South Melbourne (Kevin Nelson, Fernando De Moraes) d Kingston City (Joe Di Iorio) 2-1.
Final: Fawkner/Whittlesea v South Melbourne, Knights Stadium, tonight (Tuesday 31 January) at 8pm.
