DEVELOPERS of the old Werribee Hospital site have been told to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more creative.
At its last meeting, the council deferred a proposal for a 16-lot sub-division on 1.3 hectares of land in Synnot St, near the Werribee River.
Councillor Henry Barlow said the designs were too much “same old, same old”.
“Here we have the opportunity to do something innovative, but this is a carbon copy of what you would see in the greenfield sites in Point Cook.”
Cr Barlow said he expected something more substantial on such prime real estate in the middle of Werribee’s CBD.
“In all of our discussions, we’ve been trying to bring more people into the CBD and encourage medium density, hopefully with some kind of landmark buildings.”
He said the plan also showed the dwellings with back fences facing the river, something “not at all attractive or appropriate”.
The Council voted five to four to defer a decision on the development.
CEO Ian Robins pointed out the deferral didn’t call for the developers to alter the design, so they could return with the same blueprints.
