WYNDHAM City Council will spend $300,000 a year to attack graffiti.
The city’s new graffiti management strategy looks at prevention, education, removal, legislation and policing.
As part of the three-year program, the Council will:
•Pay the first $80 towards the removal of graffiti, then share the cost with ratepayers.
•Spend $33,000 a year to paint murals and plant shrubs and trees to prevent graffiti along lengthy fences.
•Work with police to establish a graffiti database to identify and prosecute offenders.
•Sign agreements with utility companies and the State Government to ensure the prompt removal of graffiti from trains and other assets.
•Advise residents and traders when graffiti has been removed in their area as part of regular graffiti clean-up days.
•Involve local youth in prevention programs including mural painting.
The council will review the strategy over the next 12 months to determine its effectiveness.
