The Werribee Plaza Pacers are still happily walking after seven years.
A group of 75 retirees are part of the walking group known as the Werribee Plaza Pacers.
The Pacers meet every Wednesday and Thursday morning inside the Werribee Plaza before the doors open to shoppers.
Werribee resident and long-time pacer Lynden Bullard said the plaza provided a great environment for the weekly walks.
“The best thing about walking in the plaza is that we are on a flat surface and we are in air-conditioned comfort,” Mr Bullard said.
“We have access to medical centres, so if anyone did take ill we can get them immediate attention,” he said.
“And the toilets are there, which is something you haven’t got when you’re walking in the street.”
Mr Bullard also said the plaza provided a safe environment for the group.
“Some of the ladies don’t feel safe just walking on the street,” he said.
Mr Bullard first joined the group six years ago after having had a triple bypass and undergoing a rehab course.
“I went from rehab across to the Pacers so I can keep up my exercise and walking,” he said.
The walking group has also become a social group for the members, who enjoy coffee together after their walk and lunch outings every few weeks.
