ON Saturday, Hoppers Crossing resident Les Porter will depart on a long journey to raise funds for the Wyndham branch of the Salvation Army.
At noon, Mr Porter will leave from the Werribee Plaza on the ‘Wyndham 1000’ tricycle trek.
In September, Star reported Mr Porter planned to ride 1000 kilometres around the municipality on his fundraising trip.
Mr Porter, who was hit by a car when he crossed a Yarraville road in 1987, sustained an acquired brain injury which left him with balance problems, which is why he rides a tricycle rather than a bike.
He spent months in hospital and two years in rehabilitation, but the Salvation Army volunteers and officers who visited him inspired Mr Porter to join the not-for-profit group.
The Wyndham 1000 will conclude with a fundraising cabaret dinner and auction on 19 November at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre.
